The Magnet of Family (With Indonesian Translation)

Eid ul-Fitr or often abbreviated Eid, is about to come. Muslims all over the world glorify the triumph after the thirty days of dawn-to-sunset fasting during the entire month of Ramadhan. Eid is a festivity, it is all about forgiving and apologizing, and it’s about the reborn of someone after being ‘purified’ by the holy month. But not only that, Eid is a magnet which draws family members to a rendezvous, gathering, smiling, laughing, crying and sharing their experiences. If there is no Eid ul-Fitr, maybe there will be many people who have not returned to their hometowns for more than a year. Eid ul-Fitr is a real magnet of family, the magnet which assembly the pieces which are scattered away from home.

Butterfly, Firefly, Turtle, and Monkey (With Indonesian Translation)

taken from borbonianblogosphere.wordpress.com

The word college student means mahasiswa in Indonesian, the word siswa means student and the word maha can be regarded as ‘not only’. So the word mahasiswa or college student means that a student which is not a kindergarten, elementary, junior, or senior high student whose task is only to study from dawn to dusk.

By being a college student; you will have a form of freedom which you don’t get before taking off your white and grey uniform. Aside from studying in your college, you can do almost anything you decide for yourselves. That’s why the life of every single student in a college is different. But there is a classic and general classification of college student based on their activities after class is end.  Before we move on, I want to say that life is the privilege of the living; I am not saying that this way of life is good and another one is bad. Whatever way of life you choose, just walk on, and don’t be stand still.

The types of students based on their activities after class is end:

Marionette

By: Ihsan Nur Iman Faris

If you want your love to
always be on your side
always be with you
always be there for you
always thinking of nobody but you,

what you have to do is just
go to kitchen and take a knife,
then lurking in the darkness of night
waiting for his homecoming,
stab him and let no vital spots missing.

After that, plunge him into a mercury-cup
let him be the stiffest corpse,
a roll of thread will help the needlework
in making him anything you want.
Then when everything has been set,
please welcome your dearest marionette.

I am not such a psychopath
Neither you who gaze at me sharp.
Life like Jack and Sally will not be repeated
no proof that a little piece of heaven be existed
coz the authority of God will not be competed.

Every single life has its own life
Footsteps cannot stay in a bracket.
You have gone on a thousand dates
things that you will never regret.
Don’t be scared, just let him be free,

don’t worry, because
you will still be loved
you will still be remembered
you will still be yearned
you will still be loved

You can understand,
you will understand,
you have to understand.

Unless
if
you want to make a marionette.

Not Only a Hearsay; Evils Chained on Ramadhan (With Indonesian Translation)

Today is the second day of Ramadhan. The earth’s temperature is normal, the sun shines as usual, the sky is still blue, cloud is still white, and rice still can be eaten just like every day. The thing which is different on Ramadhan is only the activities of Muslims which tend to be more religious than usual. During daylight hours of Ramadhan Muslims refrain from eating, drinking and having sexual intercourse. The intention of Ramadhan is to teach Muslims about patience, spirituality, humility, and submissiveness to God.

Well, today's post will be a lil bit different because I re-blog a post from another writer. Actually I don't want to do so, but this post is an exception.

A poem by Adiguna Bahari, my inspiring brother :)

May 13, 2009

late night one day, i’ve realized something..
and i’m happy now i can define it,
this thing called love.

for me,
love is not to own,
neither to possess
rather,
to love is to give the best
to pray for his/her best
even if it might mean to not always be with us,
because fate has set it, destiny has written it,
we humans can’t change it.

if we really understand love,
it wont be a problem to let go..
we love them and want them to be their best..
even if that means away from us..
if we persist, we’re just gonna burden them..
may even irritate them..
intervening with fate,
that has already been written.

we humans don’t know much..
can we see beyond the horizon?
beyond the present?
trust me, everything changes,
we dont know the future
nothing stays the same..

don’t be stubborn,

don’t be persistent,

let it flow..

dissapointing?

no.
unless you don’t understand love…

The title must direct you to think that this post is about a war between Indonesian against Japanese and Sundanese (one of the tribes in my country). Actually no, it’s not about that. I just want to attract more people by giving that title :p .

Stories behind Your Profile Pictures (With Indonesian Translation)

Cerita-Cerita dibalik Profile Picturesmu

Everybody knows Facebook right? Well, I guess I don’t have to tell you the definition of profile picture (PP). People having Facebook accounts show their PP. Indeed, they want to show us what actually they are, they want to tell their stories to us. Based on my observation, there are six stories behind people’s PP.

Semua orang tahu Facebook kan? Ya, saya kira saya tidak perlu lagi memberi tahu definisi dari profile picture (PP). Semua orang yang mempunyai akun Facebook menunjukan PP mereka. Ya, mereka ingin menunjukan siapa sesungguhnya mereka, mereka ingin menceritakan cerita mereka pada kita. Berdasarkan observasi saya, ada enam cerita dibalik PP orang-orang.

Before I move on, I want to tell you that the sample of PP used are mine, since I think that’s the safest way to avoid claim of misusing.

Sebelum saya lanjutkan, saya mau memberitahukan bahwa sample PP yang digunakan adalah milik saya sendiri, karena saya pikir itu adalah cara teraman untuk menghindari anggapan penyalahgunaan.

Below are the stories behind people’s PP based on my observation:

Ode to My Mother

I am still being a little bit under the weather, so I still don't have enough energy to write a new post for today :( .Therefore my post for today is another note from my Facebook (again).

Ode to My Mother

By: Ihsan Nur Iman Faris

In the dawn,
when most of earth population are still in their dreams,
when rooster hasn't crow,
when sunshine hasn't begin to share its light,
when plants still breathe in oxygen,
you wake up,
smiling at your family who are still sleeping
preparing breakfast, so that they can do their activities in their best shapes.

Working,
from dawn to dusk
from office desk to kitchen table.
being tired, being exhausted, being sick.

you never complain
you never be desperate
you never be angry.

All that you do is for the sake of me, for the sake of your family.

I hope, one day my sons and my daughters will have
a mother as perfect as you.

aamiin.

Think, Count, Realize

By Ihsan Nur Iman Faris
Think you are in your funeral.

Count, how many people will come.
Count, how many people will cry.
Count, how many people will laugh.

That way
you can guess
how important you are,
in the middle of society.

That way
you can estimate,
how many good deeds that you have done.

That way
you can count,
how many times you hurt people's hearts.

That way
you will realize that
when you are dead,
you can change nothing.

Think, count, realize,
from now on.

Uniform

By: Ihsan Nur Iman Faris

They cheat, they steal, they murder.
They are cheaters, they are thieves, they are murderers.
They want to eat, they want to sleep, they want justices,
they are desperados because they don’t wear any uniform.

They cheat, they steal, they murder.
They are cheaters, they are thieves, they are murderers.
They can eat, they can sleep, they are justices,
they are not desperados because they do wear uniforms.

They are disgraces of my country
because they wear uniforms.

I cannot sleep I cannot dream tonight, I need my television

Whoa ! My television is out of order and because of that I get sleeping disorder. Well, maybe that sounds exaggerating but actually that’s true. I cannot sleep well not because I am depressed thinking of my precious out of order TV, but because I cannot hear any sound from it before sleeping. Yea, that’s weird I know. Commonly people tend to sleep easier while they are in tranquil conditions but I am uncommon.  I tend to sleep easier when I hear sounds of human nearby. I feel secure and safe when I hear noises created by human, that’s why I always turn my TV on before sleeping. Last night I didn’t hear any 'lullaby ' from my TV. My focus was distracted by the sounds outside of my dorm and I kept thinking of the source of those sounds so that I couldn’t sleep well on that night. I don’t even place any clock at my dorm because I hate the tic toc sound of clock bugging me when I try to sleep. Do you know what kind of sleeping disorder I get? I don’t search it on google because if I search it on google I’ll lose any reason to write this post (lol) .

Technology; Friend or Foe?

I am almost 20 years old by the end of June, and somehow remembering my age rings the bell of my past when I was a child back then. When I was a child, there were many traditional games played by children such as galah asin, petak umpet, ucing-ucingan, oray-orayan, perepet jengkol ,congklak, gasing, langlayangan (playing kite) etc . My favorite games were galah asin and petak umpet (hide and seek).

“There were many traditional games played by children”

Yes, I said they were many traditional games played by children because we can see that nowadays, in the globalization era, when technology is the king, children rarely play traditional games. The nature of children is playing, and of course on that age they will tend to use much time for playing. So, if I say that traditional games were played by children, what games do children play nowadays? Children nowadays tend to prefer monitor, keyboard, and mouse to be their playing partners rather than their peers, that is the negative effect of the development of technology.

There are some values lost by the time modern games bolstered by the development of technology replaces the traditional games.

The value of socialization is the first thing which is lost. Here is the thing, when you want to play traditional games what thing you have to do first? Of course you have to gather with your peers, and how about when you want to play internet games? Just turns on the computer or go to warnet I guess. Traditional games trigger children to socialize with the others, they build togetherness among children and of course the effect for the growth of the children will be beneficial, because they will get used to doing activities in group. On the other hand, internet games make children be exclusive and individual because they will only need computer as their friends.

The second thing is that the degradation of healthy level of the children. Whoa ! it sounds scientific but actually I cannot proof how far the degradation of healthy level of the children happened when they leave the

Manga VS Comic

If you read my profile you will realize that I fond of reading comic. Actually the titles written in my favorite books column don’t belong to comic, but actually belong to manga. So what is actually this thing called manga? . To put it simply, manga is comic from Japan while comic in common is from western countries especially America. Aside from the origins, they share other differences. Below are the differences between manga and comic in my version:

           They have different names
LOL, of course it is obvious, sorry it’s only a teaser :p .

       Main character
The main character in comic usually described as a super hero or warrior, while the main character in manga tends to be more various, it can be an ordinary student with his daily problems.

Storyline
Led by the difference of the main character, the storyline of manga and comic tend to be different too. The storyline of comic usually deals with the fight between goodness and evil while the storyline of manga can be

The Last Samurai : Culture, Identity, Honor, and Pride

“I have dreamed of a unified Japan
. . .of a country strong and independent and modern.
And now we have railroads and cannons, western clothing.
But. . .
. . .We cannot forget who we are. . .
. . .or where we come from.”

Whoa ! I was almost crying with watery eyes when watching this film for the second time. It’s an old film, but this film never ceases astonishing me.  I like the sounds of the clashing swords, I like the hoarse throats of the old men dying, I like the booming sounds of howitzer, I like the splashes of blood, I like the outfits, the settings, I like everything from this film.

The Holes of Imperfection in Perfectionist's Body

By : Ihsan Nur Iman Faris

When you become perfectionist
You will get many holes in your body
You expect people to be perfect
But you haven’t perfected yourself first
When you expect people to be better
You have to be the best
Being perfect is something impossible
Then expecting people to be exactly fits
The idea of perfect which you uphold
Is beyond impossible

EWC Writing Competition 4 : The Phenomena of Social Network

Ok. No more long bridging for the post. Below is my writing for the 4th EWC Writing Competition. I won the competition, but please don't ask how many people registered for that :p. There are sooooo many grammatical errors, sorry for the inconvenient. Oh yeah, one more thing, I am still waiting for the certificate and the merchandises anyway :p.

The Phenomena of Social Network

Nowadays, I think there are no people who don’t know what social network is. Almost all people from different social classes and ages have the account of Friendster, Facebook, or Twitter. The data show that social network such as Facebook becomes the most-visited site in Indonesia, it excel the number of visitor of search engine site such us Google.

The main function of social network actually is to connect people. By using social network, people from different place can be connected by just using internet connection as the ‘main bridge’. Teenager usually uses social network as the place where they pour their feelings and expressions, for example when they have problem regarding to love, when they feel angry, or when they feel sad. Another function of social network is for promotion. Many products are promoted in Facebook or Twitter. For promotion purpose, social network

EWC Writing Competition 3 : The Angers of Nature

Seems like today's posts will be all of my writings in English Writing Community Writing Competition's history since I found all of my writing of that writing competition. My next writing is my second writing for the third EWC Writing Competition. I skipped the second competition because the regulation stated that the winner of the first writing competition was not allowed to join the next competition. Well, that was a weird regulation but I didn't give any objection towards that regulation and thanks god because after the third one that regulation is revoked. My writing didn't be the one shown on the wall magazine because it lost to the writing of the owner of www.sincerelyputdar.blogspot.com which is also the owner of my heart, LOL. Untill now I still don't know what her writing was and why I lost to her, but if you want to know my writing, this is it  :D

The Angers of Nature

A hundred of bodies lying on the ground, many houses are destroyed because of the horde of water that pass through them blindly, those are some of the result of deluge that happened in Wasior, Papua. Tsunami in Mentawai may be not as devastating as Tsunami that happened in Aceh several years ago. But,

EWC Writing Competition 1 : What’s in My Mind about Writing?

I still don't know what I have to write on this new born blog, so I dig deeply the drive on my notebook and I found my writing of the first writing competition held by English Writing Club ESA 2010 (the student union of my campus). I was the winner of that competition, I got a certificate and some limited merchandises as the winner. Below is my writing, I try to keep it original by giving no editing.

What’s in My Mind about Writing?

In my mind writing is not merely the black ink that spills on the sheet of a white papers. Not just combinations of letters that form words, not just combinations of words that form sentences, or form of the paragraphs that make us confuse when search for the main idea. I believe it is a form of unlimited expression of human being. Writing is tear drop, smiles, or anger that is expressed by texts. No such words that cannot be expressed by writing. Many people write their feelings, their sadness, their happiness or their dissatisfaction
